The following positions are all volunteer opportunities with the Halifax Chamber of Commerce. These opportunities can help you enhance your leadership skills, expand your professional and personal network and you can work alongside people you may otherwise never meet.

Some of these positions cycle through as term positions and we are always recruiting new members to join. AMBASSADORS

Ambassadors are essential to the continued success of the Chamber.

Ambassadors enhance the connectivity of Chamber members, heighten the value of Chamber membership, and strive to boost members’ Chamber engagement. This committee helps to increase the retention rate of existing members by being responsive to their needs.

What is required of a Chamber Ambassador?

  • Promoting the Chamber in the community
  • Making members feel comfortable at Business After Hours and other Chamber functions
  • Attending quarterly Ambassador meetings
  • Visiting new members throughout the year to encourage involvement in Chamber programs and ensure that the Chamber is meeting their needs (this includes actual face-to-face visits to the new members)
  • Attending grand openings, ribbon cutting events, and volunteering at other community events as may be required.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

The Membership Committee encourages growth of the Chamber membership while ensuring ongoing support, evaluation and adjustment of programs, services and events provided to our Chamber members and the community.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Board of Directors advises, governs, oversees policy and direction, and assists with the leadership and general promotion of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce to support the organization’s mission and needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Board of Directors governs the affairs and business of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce. As a member of the Board, a director acts in a position of trust for the Board and the organization and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization. Directors are expected to adhere to the key stewardship responsibilities outlined in the Halifax Chamber of Commerce Board Charter and Bylaws. Directors are committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion both within the Halifax Chamber of Commerce and in our community.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Commitment to the work and prosperity of the Chamber
  • Clarify and sustain the Chamber’s strategic plan
  • Knowledgeable of the contents of the Chamber’s charters, policies and bylaws
  • Responsible for safeguarding the good standing in the community and values that the Halifax Chamber of Commerce represents
  • Represents the Board with Chamber members and other stakeholders
  • Be actively involved in one or more Board Committee(s)
  • Commits time to review Board packages before meetings
  • Regular attendance at all Board meetings, where possible
  • Attendance at Annual General Meeting
