Meaning essence or taste in Hindi, Rasa is a concept describing every nuance of the dining experience delivered by the authentic Indian cuisine restaurant in the heart of Halifax. Experiencing Rasa culturally engulfs customers from the food to the service. The restaurant brings the Indian culture to life through its fresh, genuine ingredients and passion for service excellence.
“From the number of ice cubes in your drink to the spiciness of each dish, your complete satisfaction is our top priority,” as mentioned on the website.
Rasa has been offering a $7/meal program to all frontline workers to support them during this challenging time. Healthcare, transit and police workers can all place their orders over the phone from Monday to Thursday during lunch and dinner time and pickup or receive delivery with a show of ID.
“During the unprecedented times of COVID-19, our biggest priority has been to find ways to support our community and our staff in a safe manner,” says Rasa’s co-owner Deeksha Bhaskar. “By continuing to operate for curb-side pickup and delivery while following all safety protocols, we have been able to support most of our full-time staff in some capacity.”
For a while, Rasa was offering frontline workers the meal program for free. But out of fear of its resources running low, the restaurant had to pause the promotion to keep up with growing demands. Rasa plans on resuming the promotion at a time when it’ll be most needed.
Rasa makes vegetarian, gluten- and dairy- free dishes to accommodate all dietary restrictions. On its Instagram account, a colourful feed of Rasa’s dishes shows a glimpse into the taste and textures of its cuisine for the eyes to feast on.
“Ordering online through our website allows our customers to continue ordering with us without any exposure or purchasing e-gift cards to support us now and dine with us in the future,” says Bhaskar, who is looking forward to the reopening phase of Rasa under new normal conditions.
First-time take-out orders receive 10 per cent discount on the website. Rasa is also offering free delivery on orders over $50 to addresses within a five-kilometer range from the restaurant.
“We are so thankful for the continued support of our community and excited to welcome them again once it is safe to do so,” Bhaskar says.
