Halifax, NS – 24 August 2026 – The breakdown of the Canada–U.S. tariff negotiations is a serious setback for our business community. The impacts will be felt immediately: more uncertainty, delayed investment, and higher costs for businesses and households. Through it all, businesses in our region have shown remarkable resilience under immense pressure, and they will not relent now. This will get tougher, but we know Canada will stay united.
We support the serious and disciplined approach taken by the federal and provincial governments to date. We also commend the work done so far on interprovincial trade, including our Premier’s leadership. We encourage this to continue to open our internal markets, remove barriers to labour mobility and procurement, and make it easier for businesses to scale across provinces.
As a voice for business, representing over 2,000 member organizations in our region, we stand with Team Canada. We will be there to support our members through the uncertainty ahead.
