Air Canada’s enduring presence in Halifax continues to grow with expanded routes across the globe
Halifax has been a part of Air Canada’s journey for generations. It all started on April 16, 1941, when the airline’s inaugural flight took off from the city, bound for Moncton: a milestone that marked the beginning of a lasting partnership built on growth and connectivity.
Air Canada maintains a strong and enduring presence in Halifax. This winter, the airline is adding new routes from Halifax to its network, reflecting its ongoing commitment to the people of Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada. Together with Jazz Aviation, headquartered in Halifax, Air Canada employs approximately 830 individuals who live in and contribute to the local community.
Air Canada enhanced its non-stop seasonal offerings from Halifax to conveniently reach popular winter sun vacation destinations. It is adding Montego Bay, Jamaica and Nassau, Bahamas to its schedule that already included Tampa and Orlando in Florida, as well as Punta Cana in the Caribbean and Cancun, Mexico. In Summer 2026, a non-stop flight to Brussels, Belgium will be offered from Halifax, in addition to the long-standing connection to London Heathrow.
A defining strength of Air Canada’s Halifax operations is its seamless connectivity to the airline’s hubs in Toronto (YYZ) and Montréal (YUL), supported by multiple daily flights. This strategy ensures Halifax is linked to Air Canada’s expansive global network across six continents. Whether travelling within Canada or abroad, locals and visitors alike can rely on Air Canada to reach their destinations.
Air Canada is also proud to support many local charities in Nova Scotia such as PAC Autism Nova Scotia Society, IWK Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pictou County and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax. The airline also supports various events in the region, most recently events for The Arthritis Society and the Ovarian Cancer Canada organization.
Each year, the Air Canada Foundation and Dreams Take Flight Halifax take children facing different challenges on the trip-of-a-lifetime to a theme park in Florida. Earlier this Spring, 138 children took part in this magical day in Orlando.
From that very first flight in 1941 to today’s bustling operations, Air Canada has proudly served Halifax with dedication and care. We can’t wait to see you onboard!
