This program is intended to equip leaders and managers within an organization with current and relevant leadership skills, competencies and strategies. Development of these leaderships skills enables the participants in the program to enhance productivity, innovation and competitiveness within the organizations and teams they lead. Increasing leadership capacity in our region improves the ability for our local organizations to be successful and to have a direct impact on economic growth for Nova Scotia.
GTO helps build stronger workforces and retain young people in Nova Scotia with a salary incentive that makes it easier to hire recent graduates. Employers will receive 25% of the first year’s salary – 35% if the new grad is a member of a designated diversity group – and 12.5% of the second year’s salary.
Innovate to Opportunity (ITO)
ITO helps well-educated young people start their careers in Nova Scotia while helping businesses become more innovative and export oriented. A funding incentive is offered to eligible employers to hire recent Masters and PhD graduates for jobs that are focused on research, innovation and exports. Employers receive funding for a 3 year period, and can be eligible to receive funding of up 50% of a new grad’s first year salary.
Co-op Education Incentive (CO-OP)
CO-OP proves wage assistance to private sector, government-funded and non-profit organizations offering career-related work experiences to university and community college co-operative students. Employers pay students a minimum of $15/hr plus 4% vacation pay. CO-OP will reimburse $7.50/hr to a maximum of 40 hours per week.
Student Summer Skills Incentive (SKILL)
SKILL offers wage assistance to non-profit organizations that provide quality, career-related summer jobs to students going into university or community college in the fall. Applications are open once a year from mid-December to January.
Workplace Innovation and Productivity Skills Incentive (WIPSI)
WIPSI provides funding to companies to encourage them to invest in employee skills development including certification, new technology, productivity improvements, and increased international competitiveness.
SkillsonlineNS offers free learning for Nova Scotia businesses, and offers valuable skills training to employees and managers. Employers have the option of setting up free learning networks or assigning training modules to their staff in courses such as Financial Management, Supply Chain, Getting ready series, Human Resource Management and Social Media.
The PMP Certification Program engages participants in developing sound project management principles through classroom training and ongoing support to reach certification level. This program is offered by BrenDaniel and the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.
